To truly understand Samurai Jeans' craftsmanship, one must feel and experience the fabrics made from their own cultivated 'Japanese cotton'. The 16oz slub yarn tubular knit is unmatched in feel and texture, and is uniquely exceptional in this world.
The entire Samurai team is involved in cultivating their own cotton. The small plantation is located an hour's drive from Osaka in Sasayama, Hyogo. The entire cultivation process is a labor of love for Nogami-san and is carried out without any chemical additives or fertilizers, with much effort and passion.
The thick and especially irregular 'Japanese cotton' yarns are transformed into an impressive tubuar knit fabric in Wakayama, creating a fabric with unparalleled depth and texture.
To achieve the remarkable black tone Kuromame, Samurai harnesses the power of black soybeans sourced locally from Sasayama. The juice of these black beans, typically discarded, is ingeniously used as a natural dye to create a truly unique, organic, and eco-friendly black color.

During the 1970s, Japan experienced a significant decline in cotton production, resulting in a heavy reliance on imported cotton. The utilization of modern production techniques, which relied on chemicals, raised concerns about health and environmental contamination.
Aligned with the principles of "making things in Japan, for Japan, in the Japanese way," the project strives to revive the sense of pride associated with traditional craftsmanship and pass down these invaluable techniques to future generations.
